When I look at you, boy
I can see the road that lies ahead
I can see the love and the sorrow
Bright fields of joy
Dark nights awake in a stormy bed
I want to go with you, but I can’t follow
So keep to the old roads
Keep to the old roads
And you’ll find your way
Your first kiss, your first crush
The first time you know you’re not enough
The first time there’s no one there to hold you
The first time you pack it all up
And drive alone across america
Please remember the words that I told you
Keep to the old roads
Keep to the old roads
And you’ll find your way
You’ll find your way
If love is what you’re looking for
The old roads lead to an open door
And you’ll find your way
You’ll find your way
Back home
And I know you’ll be scared when you take up that cross
And I know it’ll hurt, 'cause I know what it costs
And I love you so much and it’s so hard to watch
But you’re gonna grow up and you’re gonna get lost
Just go back, go back
Go back, go back to the ancient paths
Lash your heart to the ancient mast
And hold on, boy, whatever you do
To the hope that’s taken hold of you
And you’ll find your way
You’ll find your way
If love is what you’re looking for
The old roads lead to an open door
And you’ll find your way
You’ll find your way
Back home
On Bebo Norman's retirement tour, Peterson dedicated this song to him. Then he jokingly sang, "When I look at you, Bebo..." The place was a mess with laughter. AP had to start over.
This song will forever and always bring me to tears, there is always one song on his albums that hit home with me. All of them can relate to me, but there is always one song that I hear when I most need it.
I am always struck by the lyric "Lash your heart to the ancient mast." It hits me so hard. A reference to siren song from Homer's Illiad/Odyssey.It's a humble awakening that you aren't strong enough to resist so you do whatever it takes to keep from yielding...
Summary:
Married 18 yrs and 7 children.
Brain cancer.
Looking to die well and leave my kids with the same joy that I’ve found in Christ.
This song captures exactly what I want them to know.
Thank you.

I just entered 20's... The song makes me cry every time I hear the lyrics... First kiss, first crush, the first time there's no one there to hold me... Just going through such situation... God lights my ways...
I discovered AP a few days ago through his song "Is he worthy ?". I listened to it a hundred times and I "fell in love" with His music and His spirit, the Holy Spirit in fact. He is so humble and consecrated to God. The present song is also a gift from God, to help us along the way of life. We are so blessed through those gifted artists dedicated to the Almighty. May God richly bless you Andrew P. !!!
The Lord found me....34 years ago, and I still feel like a little boy wondering out in the woods. Wanting to be 'grown up,' wanting to make the right choices in life, never wanting to hurt anyone, never wanting to lose anyone, never wanting to disappoint anyone, never not loving my family and friends....but here I sit, in the dark shadow of an old tall tree that has loomed over me for, years. The only 'Light' I see is the Light of The Lord, hanging on the 'tree' He bore; hanging on the 'Love' He has shown.
his is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16
