The guy was a genius. Inspired Barney Kessel. BK watched him play for 3 days and saw he only used downstrokes.

What Christian WAS was probably the most advanced soloist on any instrument at the time of his death, and by dint of his immeasurable contribution to the belop language, just about the only guitarist is jazz history to have had a profound effect on the way horn players and pianists approached things. Not to mention his enormous influence on blues players via T-Bone Walker, and on every Western Swing and hot C&W to follow him.
