One day we walked along the sand
One day in early spring
You held a piper in your hand
To mend its broken wing
Now I’ll remember many a day
And many a lonely mile
The echo of a piper’s song
The shadow of a smile
The shadow of your smile
When you are gone
Will color all my dreams
And light the dawn
Look into my eyes
My love and see
All the lovely things
You are to me
Our wistful little star
Was far too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so did I
Now when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile
One of those beautiful romantic songs of the sixties. This is the version I first heard and the one that connects with my College Days memories. I liked it then and still do over fifty years later. I was a young man then now I am an old man but still like this song.
Lost my virginity with this song playing on a dansette portable record player! I was 15 she was 17, and we were together 8 years, Without our relationships starting with this song, it would have been 4 years as I am sure the replaying of this song kept us together a little longer each time we heard it together....
This is the version I Heard when I was a teenager. Only much later did I found it was the theme of the movie The Sandpiper. It is a good song to hear. And what is more the Singer has a voice just right for the song. Besides the girl shown in the video has a nice pair of lips and beautiful teeth. Nice to hear and to watch.
When we grow old enough some of our former girlfriends are gone from this world and we remember as the song says the shadow of their smiles. We may never see them again in this life but we may remember the good times we had together.
