In my opinion Chu was more true to the idiom of the swing era than Coleman Hawkins.

You're telling me. Now everyone thinks good music has to have anoying transformer sound effects or sounds like a washer and dryer getting it on in the laundry room together. Computers....go figure.

Chu plays great on a Lionel Hampton number Sweethearts on Parade. I think the best song he ever did. look for it on you tube.

Basically a small group out of the Cab Calloway band. A good reminder of how strong a band Cab had behind him.

It's sad to compare the two great musicians, they both had a great style tho' Chu was not able to show later development due to his early demise. But one can surmise he was still developing and the mind boggles what the end product would have been..Rolf listen to The Hawk's "Body and Soul" if you are comparing these two great jazzmen.
