I am very confused as to the writer of this great song. I grew up in the 60's - 70's - 80's and Dr. Hooks version was one of my favorite childhood songs (And no i didnt know what it meant, I just loved it). Dr. Hooks version lists Sam Cooke as the writer, as does Wikipedia. However Not only does this version list Barbara Campbell as the writer, but so does Sam Cooke's version!
I am guessing Barbara Campbell is the writer, but if someone that knows their stuff could clear it up for me, it would be appreciated!
Loved Sam Cook singing only sixteen 'So glad i was a 60s girl we will never enjoy music like thisera.Every song had a story not like the dribble we hear today.
I was aged 11 when this song was in the charts I remember being in the scouts at the time also I didn't know that in years to come I would be playing this song with various bands
Only 16, only 16
Only 16, only 16
She was only 16, only 16
I loved her so
She was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
We'd laugh and we'd sing, and do little things
That made my heart glow
She was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
Why did I give my heart so fast?
It never will happen again
'Cause I was a mere lad of 16
I've aged a year since when
She was only 16, only 16
With eyes that would glow
She was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
Why did I give my heart so fast?
It never will happen again
Coz I was a mere lad of 16
I've aged a year since then
She was only 16, only 16
With eyes that would glow
She was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
That she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
That she was too young to fall in love
And I was too young to know
That she was too young
