"From the early early mornin' To the early early night You can see Miss Molly rockin' At the House of Blue Lights" (as Little Richard sang in "Good Golly Miss Molly" about 10 years later).

One of the joys of my life was singing this song with a swing band in the 90s. I sang it a lot and never got tired of it. My band was called Jump Up! and we played all over Seattle.

I've learned more about my Great Grandmother Ella from all your comments than I'd ever known before! ;) Everyone is an expert... The commentary on sounding and looking "black" is really interesting. Her son, my Grandfather, Dick Gerber was adopted by one of her Husbands Marvin Gerber, but there is some confusion as to who the actual Father is. I've always wondered if I'm partially black. I know my Grandfather certainly has some very strong features, full lips, deep set eyes... Always a curious about our family tree. Anywho, she sure did have a lot of soul!

I was introduced to this song by Commander Cody and later Asleep at the Wheel’s version in the 70’s. Ray Benson and AATW does it great.!!!

I was a teen in the 60's and most of us thought these slang words and phrases were coined when our generation, though we had the world by the tail. This is the best version I've ever heard.

Interesting the use of the word 'homey' which we all assumed was reasonably recent.
