Lay your body down upon the midnight snow
Feel the cold of winter in your hair
Here in a world of your own
In a casing that’s grown
To a children’s delight
That arrived overnight
And here they come to play their magic games
Carving names upon your frozen hand
Here in a world of your own
Like a sleeper whose eyes
Sees the pain with surprise
As it smothers your cries
They’ll never never know
Hey there’s a Snowman
Hey, Hey what a Snowman
Pray for the Snowman
Ooh, Ooh what a Snowman
They say a snow year’s a good year
Filled with the love of all who lie so deep
Smiling faces tear your body to the ground
Covered red that only we can see
Here in a ball that they made
From the snow on the ground
See it rolling away
With wild eyes to the sky
They’ll never, never know
Hey there’s a Snowman
Hey what a Snowman
Pray for the Snowman
Ooh, Ooh what a Snowman
They say a snow year’s a good year
Filled with the love of all who lie so deep
Hey there goes the Snowman
Hey there what a Snowman
Hey there lies the Snowman
Hey he was a Snowman
They say a snow year’s a good year
Filled with the love of all who lie so deep
I've always loved how this song has such a powerful, almost fairy tale beauty to it, and the lyrics are basically about kids tearing apart a guy who froze in the snow. Very macabre, but only if you play close attention.
This is the story of this song by Mike Rutherford: The snowbound Is the soul or presence of the loved ones who have passed away. They come to us to take care of us and give us their love and affection. Now what a beautiful message is that and what a wonderful song is this. It really shudders me into tears every time I hear it because it reminds me of my father.
Awesome, 1978 when I was 13 going on 14 & life was exciting with so much promise, now 33 yeas later after a divorce, 3 family bereavements and a nervous breakdown... This song took me right back Thank you Johnny C for upload
this is one of those songs that I listen to from time to time, and yesterday we had our first winter snow. it "arrived overnight", and I have two puppies who were born may 1st and so had never seen snow. i started listening to genesis when i got married at 21, and heard "in the air tonight" on the radio in the corvette we took on our honeymoon. when we got back i bought a bunch of their music. the marriage didn't work, lol, but i discovered lots of great music in the 80's. genesis has that ability to write songs that sound mystic and beautiful. i cried last night listening to this again. i don't know why. it's just a beautiful song, and makes you think of all that is possible in life and beyond. true art.
