Cigarettes were a quarter then
Bobby-socks and jeans were in
Elvis sang the songs that we loved so
But the most important thing to us
Was keepin' gas in my old truck
So I could take us to the drive-in show
I never will forget the day
That you and I went all the way
I was the first for you — and you for me
I’ve still got the truck that we loved in
It takes me back there now and then
Back to '59 my memory
And
Baby I’m yours
I’ll love you always
I’m gonna stand by you until the end of time
Remember all of the good things
That we shared together
Signed — love Betty — 1959
Graduation finally came
Uncle Sam called me away
You married someone else while I was gone
I kept your letters all these years
And I can’t help but shed a tear
When I read the words you wrote me years ago
Baby I’m yours
I’ll love you always
I’m gonna stand by you until the end of time
Remember all of the good things
That we shared together
Signed — love Betty — 1959
I miss the days when they wrote songs that really meant something. Songs that touched the heart and spoke to the human condition. Today its bubble gum trash sung by underwear models with no real talent.--- ----Of course if your watching this, i aint telling you nothing new.
"I still got the truck that we loved in". You don't find lyrics sang with that much heart from a true country boy in today's crap country. I can't even tell you how much I love this song.
One of the most modest and sincere artist I have seen in years. seen him several times. Every show has been excelent. Very accomplished songwriter and singer. Also very underrated.
This is real music, real country, sung by a real artist who could really sing. New music, especially country, is classless, meaningless noise, written and sung by a bunch of douchebags. Yes Merle, I am afraid the good times are really over for good.
I heard this song for the first time in the dump truck about a month ago. I didn't know who sang it and couldn't remember the lyrics so I gave up on finding it. Well tonight on the jobs sight I said to myself, "It would be awesome if that song came on" and about three hours later it did. Now I'm here, thank ya Lord.
