Yes; Marvin and the incomparable Frank ("Keep On Truckin' ", "Boogie Down", "Girl, You Need A Change Of Mind") Wilson.
This is my FAVORITE Marvin solo joint of the '60's. And yes, it exemplifies the "peak-period" Motown /Funk Brothers sound.
Oh, got-damn !
After all of these years this is truly a classic gem, expertly delivered with so much passion and pain! In my opinion, this is one of Marvin's greatest hits and he had a ton of them. This one should have been number 1 on the charts. Fifty years after it has been recorded it sound so vibrant and relevant even today! Singers and Muscians, arrangers and producers of the 60's, 70's and 80's were so far superior to the ones of today, sadly.
This is THE definitive Marvin Gaye; Tamala/Motown, sound of all time. The Funk Brothers are at their most awesome best. Had a chance to hear them jam at Baker's Keyboard Lounge back in the day. AWESOME
