When I had you
I treated you bad
And wrong my dear
And since, yeah
Since you been away
Dont’cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who’s lovin' you
I, I, I, I, I
Should have never ever
Ever made you cry
And since, oh
Since you been gone
Dont’cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who’s lovin' you
Life without love
Is oh, so lonely
I don’t think that I
I’m gonna make it
All my life
All my life
Belongs to you only
Come on
Come on and take it
Because
All I can do
All I can do
Since you been gone is cry
And it’s you, oooh
Yeah it’s youu
Will never wonder
And worry your pretty little head
About what I do
Dont’cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who’s lovin' you
And I wonder
Who’s lovin' you
And I wonder
Who’s lovin' you
Dang it, I still like the Jackson 5 cover better. I also like the Beatles' cover of "You Really Got A Hold On Me" better than the original too. I think it's because I heard the covers first.
Let's make this clear once & for all to acknowledge. This is Smokey's song. And because he wrote it from his own experience his voice is the only one that matters in expression & emotion. Everyone else is just doing a cover of the song, no matter how well, good, or great anyone thinks those other versions are. Yes there's situations where a writer puts out a song & it's not as good as someone else who covers it, but that's not the case with Smokey. He was & still is the greatest! BarNone!
THE MIRACLES did the ORIGINAL. All later versions, (Jackson 5, En Vogue, Terrence Trent-D'arby, Temptations, Brenda & The Tabuations) , are simply COVERS of THE MIRACLES' ORIGINAL.
Damn, sing the song Smokey. I fell in love w/my hubby. MJ did a dynamite job on this but the original still goes to Smokey. To hear MJ sing this it took me out but my main coverage on this still belongs to Smokey. You hear Claudette's voice at the end, come on people this is the classic . Your biggest fan Smokey. Sandie C
U R right, it is my opinion and that's what makes the world go around. Smokey lived what he sang, Mike a little boy at the time, he knew nothing about being in love but Mike did a masterful job on the song. Peace
My favorite version is the original... smoke was just a youngster when he wrote this... Some may think that some of the covers improved on the original, but I think that it's easy to recognize genius like Smokey's years after the fact, but the real genius was in creating this song from nothingness... Smokey did that... And the lovely Claudette at the end is another high point of this classic masterpiece!! THE MIRACLES! Motown's first Superstar group!
Michael killed this song and made it his own.... a lot of people forget that this is origanally a Smokey Robinson song...Smokey even said his self he just stopped performing it cause every one would always say you did a good job doing that jackson 5 song and he would always be like no thats my song lol
original great version before everybody who tries out for American Idol jerk it up and also give credit to Michael Jackson and never mention the author Smokey.
I don' understand why I see credit for this wonderful song so often attributed to Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson??? This is SMOKEY ROBINSON'S Song, which he sang with the Miracles all the way back in 1960. Now if those attributing this song to Michael Jackson just 'cause he covered the song, could just do their homework and give credit where credit is due. Smokey, this is your Song, and, you're still Smoking after all this time.
in the words of Smokey "I couldn't believe a lil kid could sing that song with so much emotion! It was incredible for me, as a songwriter, to see my song performed so well"
from what I understand. Smoky said that he thought Michael did a great job, for someone who had never experienced that kind of love...But I am a firm believer that you can look at kids sometimes and see that they have an old soul...I think Michael had such a soul...
