There’ll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
I’ll never forget the people I met
Braving those angry skies
I remember well as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes
And though I’m far away
I still can hear them say
«Thumbs up!»
For when the dawn comes up
There’ll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
There’ll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free
The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again
I may not be near, but I have no fear
History will prove it too
When the tale is told
It will be as of old
For truth will always win through;
But be I far or near
That slogan still I’ll hear
«Thumbs up!»
For when the dawn comes up
There’ll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
When night shadows fall, I’ll always recall
Out there across the sea
Twilight falling down on some little town
It’s fresh in my memory
I hear mother pray
And to her baby say
«Don't cry!»
This is her lullaby
There’ll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
Only a couple of days ago, the BBC ran a feature celebrating Dame Vera's 100th birthday. Today, cowards murdered innocent people in London. We did not give in during WW2 and we will not give in now.
I knew very little about Vera Lynn, but now I am learning. I understand why a National Treasure. Such quiet Beauty in her song, I just get swallowed up. I love every note every word. I will google up her story.
There'll be bluebirds over
the white cliffs of Dover
tomorrow
just you wait and see
I'll never forget the people I met
braving those angry skies
I remember well as the shadows fell
the light of hope in their eyes
and though I'm far away
I still can hear them say:
Bombs up!
But when the dawn comes up
There'll be bluebirds over
the white cliffs of Dover
tomorrow
just you wait and see
there'll be love and laughter
and peace ever after
tomorrow
when the world is free
The shepherd will tend his sheep
, the valley will bloom again
and Jimmy will go to sleep
in his own little room again
There'll be bluebirds over
the white cliffs of Dover
tomorrow kust you wait and see
There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover
tomorrow
just you wait and see..

I went to France once, and when we were sailing back to England, and I saw Dover. So I broke out into song, and my friend was like Um....Okay and she just doesn't get it. Such a good song.
MY GRANDFATHER A CATHOLIC FROM THE FALLS RD IN BELFAST WHO SERVED IN THE ROYAL ENGINEER'S DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR SANG THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG EVERY MORNING BEFORE HE LEFT FOR WORK. WHAT A FANTASTIC BEAUTIFUL MEMORY HE LEFT ME. RIP. SAPPER FITZPATRICK. PROUD OF YOU BEYOND WORDS.
I can't even imagine the power this song must have had when it was released in 1942...a time when the war was NOT going well for Britain and nobody knew for sure how it would end.
Rip dear lady. God bless You for giving comfort to Allied soldiers, Sailors and Airmen in WW2 with your beauty and angelic voice. My Father a WW2 veteran of the European theatre adored You!
