This can’t be true, girl
(Doo-ooh-woo-ooh)
Your love for me, girl
(Doo-ooh-woo-ooh)
Just yesterday you saw me walking home
You took my hand and asked me to walk you home
And I felt good inside, sweetheart
(Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-ooh-ooh)
I felt good inside, sweetheart
(Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-ooh-ooh)
This can’t be true, girl
(Doo-ooh-woo-ooh)
Are you for real, girl
(Doo-ooh-woo-ooh)
Or am I dreaming dreams about you
Or am I dreaming dreams that can’t come true
Well I feel good inside, sweetheart
(Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-ooh-ooh)
Oh-oh-oh
This can’t be true, girl
Your love for me, girl
Or am I dreaming dreams about you
Or am I dreaming dreams that can’t come true
Well, I feel good inside, sweetheart
(Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-ooh-ooh)
Oh-oh-oh, I feel good inside, sweetheart
(Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-ooh-ooh)
This can’t be true, girl
(This can’t be true, girl)
Your love for me, girl
(This can’t be true, girl)
This can’t…
I was 5 years old when this came out around Thanksgiving of 1965 & I fell in love with this song the first time that I heard it. 45 1/2 years later, it still has me under its spell. Especially those harmonies & the modulation at the fade are just ridiculous! Eddie, Mr. Weldon McDougal & The larks in the background did their thing for sure! Great memories of some very sweet days growing up in 1960s Brooklyn!
Growing up in the Philly area I was exposed to a lot of the Philly sound in the 60's & 70's & I always loved Eddie & was so happy for him in 1969 when he hit the big time. Fast-Forward 27 years & I worked with Eddie at an Insurance Company in Frazer, Pa. & the first time we talked I mentioned all his songs including this one.
This is the SHIT!! a great grinder from my high school days. at the school dances after the football game, where you have been tracking this special lady all night and this comes on and you position yourself to ask her to dance before anybody else... wow! what memories! Bam and you get her that night after this song and Ooh Baby Baby!!
I rember Eddie Holman when I was living in Watts and also Los Angle because I rember Had There Lonley Girl I remember these song record hope Fremont H.S and Sportsman Part those were good old love it thank Eddie LosAngles Johnnie
Eddie recorded this while he was attending Cheney State College outside Philadelphia. He is from Virginia/Brooklyn and has one of the greatest falsettos of all time.
This speaks to the times. This was, for many of us, the feel of the early-to-mid '60s. It's what made me want to get into music radio in the late '60s. And, Eddie Holman was just great! Way too many people don't know about him.
The magic lives in this sound......for all the varieties of songs I love I'd love to be transported to a bar a small bar nice crowd and hear them launch into this gem!!!
I got turned onto Eddie in the early 60's and bought his 45 of this at 60th & mkt at Gold records. A big shout out to James Solomon ,who co-wrote this at 16 yrs old. We later met up when I attended Cheyney University. Great voice!
