Johnny Mandel - I Want To Live (Main Theme) download song

It is incomprehensible to me how such an original, GREAT jazz score such as this is, was not nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Motion Picture Score for a dramatic film [1958].

Does anyone know where you can find the sheet music to this?

As a very young man this theme introduced me jazz via GM a wonderful west coast jazz man.   To me he still represents the 50s & 60s. music scene.

A year ago Brian Pack said that this theme introduced him to jazz. My experience was very similar. I was, so to speak, on the cusp from rock and roll to jazz already and I sneaked under age into the cinema to see I want to live (mainly to have a smoke with my mates without anybody seeing us - dumb in those days too) and, not even expecting jazz, GM completed my conversion. A few years ago I visited the USA and went past San Quentin and realised that Barbara Graham's misfortune was actually the catalyst to a around another 60 years so far of musical joy. To love jazz seems to me a blessing. As they say, a funny old world.

One of the great jazz film scores; however, seems as if the record is "dragging" just a bit? If you go to the movie sound track, the music is just a little faster tempo. Thanks for bringing us this great group.

GM did another great soundtrack, much later,  for a canadian movie  entitled "la menace", with actor yves montand. i owned the lp, but could never find the music in the net. please help! any suggestions?

This is the sound of my youth in California.Gifted jazz players and a gifted composer. I was so lucky to grow up with these guys. Shelly was my idol. My daily play alongs to this music helped shape me into a pretty fair jazz drummer. Thanks, guys.
