Memphis soul, punk rock, great American songbook, Kinks, Stones and God knows what else, Chilton always saw the beauty of music and he always knew what was needed when he recorded covers of what was an incredibly diverse, broad range of music. I think whatever he recorded worked because the joy he felt from music always shined through.

i LOVE this tune, but i met alex chilton once at, and after, a concert, and he was a true, and complete ASS....maybe thats why! there are so few views and only one commenter! still like the song!

i dont think he was underrated....look at all the awesome bands he inspired! He rather liked the underground status, i think. he was far more delicate and gentle than his arrogant music persona....but he and many others KNEW he was a great genuine musician! RIP.

I keep seeing comments about Alex being an asshole. I had the pleasure of meeting him 3 times. He was a complete gentleman every time. He even sat and signed a 3" stack of albums presented to him by a pompous ass ex-record store employee (you know who you are) when the guy plunked them on our table and interrupted our conversation. He never said a bad word until that over-stepping guy took his signed records and left. The only comment he made? "Wow. That guy has been carrying those records around for a long time". Alex was a class act. If he was an ass to you, maybe look in the mirror.
