Other versions add dramatics, "style", or orchestration, the lyrics speak for themselves. This interpretation is how we learned it in English speaking school in the original French language from a teacher who translated and explained the meaning of the song. This is how I remember it from the Fifties, and today feel the same tristesse thinking of the treatment toward Louis Riel and of my own Acadian ancestors.
