We live in the modern age
Where love is fast like a turning page
In a magazine, we’ve hardly seen
The friends we used to know
They disappear, they come and go Like the times we’ve had
It’s kind of sad
Whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would see you through
The kind of love my Momma and Daddy knew
Yeah, whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would last through the years
Through the trials
Through the smiles
Through the tears
Today is all we’ve planned
We say tomorrow we’ll understand
If it all should end
We’d be alone again
Ohh, whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would see you through
The kind of love my Momma and Daddy knew
Yeah, whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would last through the years
Through the trials
Through the smiles
Through the tears
For now the tenderness
Has been replaced
With something less
And it’s hard to find
What we left behind
Ohh, whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would see you through
The kind of love my Momma and Daddy knew
Yeah, whatever happened to old fashioned love
The kind that would last through the years
Through the trials
Through the smiles
Through the tears.

A great song is a song that never loses its affect on the heart whenever you hear it and stands the test time . Love this song and BJ Thomas ! His voice and singing ability are amazing still!
I can remember as a teen wondering exactly this"What ever happened to old fashioned love" as i cried daily because my parents went through their divorce, and how lost and alone i felt.
BJ .. loved his music back in the 60s. 70s... reminiscing brings back all those wonderful .. innocent times.. of dating, loving and ... sounds still amazing.... 45 years later..
Whenever I hear or think about this song it makes me think of my parents. They will be celebrating their 61st Anniversary this year and they are more in love than ever, if you could even think that could be possible. My mother is 81 years old and has survived cancer 4 times so far and my father is 85. Yes, they have their medical issues that come with age, they can't dance like they used to in their younger years, but their love is still going strong. They love doing everything together. They never get bored or tired of each other. It always gave me hope that perhaps I might find that someday. So far, no such luck, but my life is not over yet, so who knows?
remember when music had soul. i miss the 70;s and 80's!
we lost something in this new millenium. im not quite sure what it was. But I can feel it deep down in my soul. Something is missing from society today. It reflects in the music, tv, and movies. Some kind of magic is gone. Replaced by something less and far from our true nature
man oh man .. loving me some b.j. thomas .. so many of us girls of that era had such a crush on him .. what a man, what a voice .. he's such a pure soul .. been through all the sturm and drang many artists have been and he's such an humbled person .. god bless you darlin' and keep on singing .. you are loved!!!
