Back in the day when Big Maybelles voice filled the airways and jukeboxes and lounges, she was a regular fixture on our Southside music circuit. I was a little girl but my older siblings would flock to the Regal, Roberts Show Loung on 63rd for Big Maybelle. My big sis said Maybelle had a way of singing and strutting through the audience and belting out Candy and other tunes. Too bad this beautiful woman died so young but thank God she left this marvelous rendition of Candy.

Thank you for this post my dad knew the late Big Maybelle back in California when he was younger what a wonderful woman he always talk about her now about they met and her friend Percy Mayfields they all hung out and partied the 50's was a time when entertainer got to know there fans not like these so call singer today it a shame I never got to meet her before she passed away..RIP Miss May belle.
