Charlie Parker - Now Is the Time download song

I heard this on Prince's Sign "O" the Times tour in 1987. Prince was doing a costume change while the band was jamming to the tune!

According to an Al Haig discography I saw, this is a 1953 recording for Verve made with Al Haig on piano, Percy Heath on bass, and Max Roach on drums.

I usually refuse giving such general statements... and nobody has ever heard ALL the musicians in the world... but Charlie has to be one of the best, if not THE greatest musician of the 20th century. Revolutionary. Fresh to this very day.

Really hard to believe this guy died in 1955.  This recording could have been made yesterday and been hip as hell.

I admire you for playing " Now's the Time". I started playing that years ago but not having enough chops I never did get it up to speed. I'm 73 now & still enjoy playing this tune but I'll be surprised if I ever get it up to Bird's speed. It seems like it would be easier when I read along with the transcription but it hasn't worked out for me yet. congratulations on your band's playing of this fine tune.

First heard Bird as a teenager and at first didn't understand what I was listening to. He took my musical head apart and slowly reassembled it. Still digging it 60 odd years later.
