My favourite blues song of the 70’s. Eric and Duane together are magic

Eric’s voice is the pain of unrequited love and the guilt of being in love with his best friend’s girl/wife... Eric’s guitar playing is his cocky strutting for his beloved, evoking the extreme confidence that his weaker self can’t yet touch... Duane’s slide and accompaniment/shuffle riff is Layla/Patti Boyd as well as a musician who is also intimidated by Eric but also Coy and evasive and elusive like Layla... Nothing definitive, just some speculative thoughts... The cover to the album kind of describes the relationship... Is the lover or the beloved holding the flowers? The flowers are blocking the people and such is the ambivalence and certitude and hence the torture Of unrequited love.

Written by Billy Myles and first recorded by American blues artist Freddie King in 1961. King had a very strong influence on Clapton,

Patti Boyd must have been SOME kind of a woman but imagine the woman Billy Myles was thinking about to write this! LOL!

Can you imagine how George Harrison must have felt hearing this song for the first time?
