From listening to records, I just knew what to do
I mainly taught myself
And you know, I did pretty well
Except there were a few mistakes
But I, uh…
I had just recently cleared up, you know, I mean…
I’d like to just continue to be able to…
express myself, as best as I can with this instrument
I feel like I have a lot of work to do. Still, ya know
I’m a student, of the drums
And I’m also a teacher of the drums too
hehe…
What makes Cancer tenacious?
The moon rules the fluids
Including the inner juices of human beings
That which assimilates and feeds the body
So the crab feeds his astral brain
Assimilating and distributing all he receives
Slowly, until it becomes a part of him
I can fly through the strangest land
Black satin starry eyes, brown smiling face…
And I would like to be able to continue to…
Let what is inside of me
Which is, which comes from all the music that I hear
You know, I would like for that to come out
It’s not like, it’s not really me that’s coming
The music’s coming through me
The music’s coming through me
when you're fighting an ancient demon samurai with one arm, while you fight, more and more blood spills, and the ground starts to be destroyed beneath your feet. when you're on your last go, the whole world breaks apart, you must jump on floating objects to fight him. your rage is at max, you have long streaks of blood gushing out of your eyes and your many cuts while you use your sword violently and without order... finally you both lunge as fast as possible... both of you have your blades up, and both of you stumble down, and die... and then your alarm wakes you up with morning wood.
That album cover is how record stores used to be. I knew mad dudes who week after week would go to the same three stores, looking for either samples or LPs to throw into their sets. when this album came out, those same guys were busting a nut over it. I actually saw Shadow like 4 years ago, and his set was incredible.
I stumbled across the brilliance of DJ Shadow quite a few years ago. One night I was sitting cuddling my Daughter, who at the time was having trouble sleeping due to teething. As I sat there with her in my arms, I was flicking through the channels on the TV. I got to the music channels and stopped on MTV, and I just caught the last minute and a half of this song. As soon as my Daughter heard the music she stopped crying and started drifting off to sleep. I have been a massive fan of his ever since and feel he is a very underrated musician.
Thank you DJ Shadow, your musical genius gave a fellow man a peaceful evening that night.
I bought this album in 96 simply because of the cover. I was wearing a hoodie(blue) and jeans looking thru albums like the brotha on the cover. I thought it was sorta ironic so I got it without hearing a single track. I wish played the lotto that day probably woulda won.
