Director here. Long shots are something I like to do. I find constantly cutting away every 5 seconds to be horribly disconnecting and impersonal. How long your shots are should be no determinate of how good you are as a filmmaker, and if it is taught that it IS, I question who is teaching you. Rather, your ability to make something good, worth watching, and not empty hearted should determine that, in my (the directors) opinion. Thanks for the criticism, of course, as that is interesting to hear.
