Everclear - Wonderful download song

Please tell me I'm not the only person who cries when I hear this

I get a lot of crap for my devotion to Everclear. I hear the "sellouts" the "overrated" and all that, but for me, Art Alexakis spoke for a generation of kids that had been lied to in a variety of ways, mainly by the people they trusted the most. I can't listen to this song without breaking down. Everclear is the voice of my time growing up while constantly being let down by the people who were supposed to protect me. Thank you, Art, for encapsulating our pain and giving us your music as therapy.

This guy knew what it was like to be a kid in the 1970s.

As a kid I used to fall asleep to the sounds of my parents screaming at each other. I knew it wasn't right but sort of just accepted it. It wasn't until I was about 20/21 when I was going on a nostalgia binge and listening to music from my childhood. This song came on. I just stared into the distance for the entire first verse, then it hit me. That fucking line. "I just don't understand how you can smile with all those tears in your eyes and tell me everything is wonderful now." I broke down. Just started sobbing. I would often come home after school or from a friends house to find my mom on the couch, obviously crying but hiding it, and she would just smile and act like everything was normal. She'd ask how my day was and give me hugs and all I'd want was to just go and seclude myself in my room.

As a child who had divorced parents and an abusive alcoholic stepdad and drug addict mother this song was always a release and I still love it to this day.

This is such an amazing song. I cry so hard every time because I'm divorced and I think about how it makes my kids feel as relating to the lyrics. I love you boys and even though you are grown now, I'm sorry for everything you went through. God bless you
