Jan & Dean belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They helped to create that California surf and hot rod sound while creating music that changed history.
They had many hits and had a historical comeback.
There are acts in the Hall that have not done half of what Jan & Dean have done.
Come on Hall of Fame, get it right.
Include Jan & Dean.
This is the first song I heard in stereo. I remember sitting in the back seat with my head between the speakers listening to the car race through my head. Pretty cool!!!
Burn up that quarter mile
Just tuned my car, now she really peels
A-lookin' real tough with chrome reverse wheels
A Blue Coral wax job sure looks pretty
Gonna get my chick and make it out to Drag City
Yeah I'm goin' to Drag City (run her through, now)
Goin' to Drag City (what'll she do now)
Goin' to Drag City (run her through, now)
Goin' to Drag City (what'll she do now)
Burn up that quarter mile
The DJ's sayin' on my favorite station
The Drag City races are the fastest in the nation
Wheels are the wildest and the stockers are pretty
I'll get my honey, grab some money, split to Drag City
Well I'm goin' to Drag City (run her through, now)
Goin' to Drag City (what'll she do now)
Goin' to Drag City (run her through, now)
Goin' to…
Surfing and muscle cars. The 60s rule! I miss surfing off the southern California coast but in 1969 I had to sell my 9'6" Hobie surfboard to pay for books for college.
Saw the Beach Boys in a concert in Vegas back in the early 80's. Dean was producing for them at the time. They called him out to do a song...right in the middle...out came Jan Berry, walking with difficulty, but still out there performing. I will never forget it!
People don't read comments made by others. Jan and Dean's career was cut short because of Jan's accident. That much is true. But he didn't die. He was in a coma. He had tremendous aphasic brain damage due to his accident. He had to learn to walk, talk, and eventually sing again. But he did perform with Dean Torrence on a tour in the late 70's. He just was never the same again. He was going to med school at the time of his accident. He was a very intelligent man. Jan and Dean had a great sound in the 60's, and Jan Berry produced records before Brian Wilson did.
Wow, great song and great pix of cool American iron! Those were good times, and the music was simpler, had a good beat and was easy to dance to! Ha ha , thanks for posting.
