I can’t carry the weight of this war
I can’t do it anymore
Everyone’s wounded; nobody’s won
Hear me; I haven’t lost my voice
Without you near me, I could tell the truth about you leaving
But that’s not what a good woman does
Well, don’t feel sorry for yourself
You got everything you want
Everyone’s watching you pick up and run
So hear me; I haven’t lost my voice
Without you near me, I could tell the truth about you leaving
But that’s not what a good woman does
Ooh, what a good woman does
That’s not what a good woman
Ooh, that’s not what a good woman does
Can’t carry the weight of this war
I won’t do it anymore
Hear me; I haven’t lost my voice
Without you near me, I could tell the truth about you leaving
But that’s not what a good woman does
Ooh, what a good woman does
That’s not what a good woman
Ooh, that’s not what a good woman does
I can't carry the weight of this war
I can't do it anymore
Everyone's wounded; nobody's won
Hear me; I haven't lost my voice
Without you near me, I can tell the truth about you leaving
But that's not what a good woman does
Well don't fell sorry for yourself
You got everything you want
Everyone's watching you pickup and run
So hear me, I haven't lost my voice
Without you near me, I can tell the truth about you leaving
But that's not what a good woman does
Ooh, a good woman does
That's not what a good woman
Ooh, that's not what a good woman does
Can't carry the weight of this war
I won't do it anymore
Hear me; I haven't lost my voice
Without you near me, I can tell the truth about you leaving
But that's not what a good woman does
Ooh, a good woman does
That's not what a good woman
Ooh, that's not what a good woman does
Oh for goodness sakes people - there is nothing in this that says there was anything happening between them. You could just as easily read it as John deciding he was in love with Joy's husband. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, you wild speculators of what happens in other people's lives. It's none of our business what the issues were. You got 2 good studio albums from these good folk, and a fistful of great live performances and bootlegs. John has chosen to spend time with his family (while his children are young - perfectly understandable - each day while they are young and growing is a precious thing that can never be recaptured). Joy has her family with her while touring and performing. Both are clearly deeply introspective, thought filled and caring souls. They have earned our respect for their abilities and they deserve their privacy in their private lives.
And absolutely incredible song. So haunting and powerful. It really is a masterpiece that will help a lot of people through a lot of difficult situations. Thank you, Joy
beautiful! This woman causes me goosebumps and makes me feel all the emotions all the damn time! I can't...I can't handle it... :( Damn, woman... you broke my heart with this song :( You're incredible, I love you. peace
When they were a duo, and cancelled their tour, the statement they put out was "irreconcilable differences of ambition." I think it's as simple as that. She wanted to pursue a big career and he wanted to stay small. She had also just had a baby which changes everything SO much. The dynamic just didn't survive. Why does it have to be about sex or cheating? How about they shared an amazing chemistry that couldn't survive their "differences in ambition" and maybe her baby blues. I think Joy has really tried to continue on and do the thing she loves most, and have the confidence to do so outside the duo that made her famous. She is also trying to do so without saying anything negative about JP. Good for her. Stop trying to make it salacious bc that's a more interesting narrative. Let it be what it is and enjoy the new music.
To me, when she sings "I could tell the truth about you leaving, but that´s not what a good woman does" - it sounds like he did something quite bad and she could tell the world about it and it would change people´s perceptions of him. But she won´t do that, because she wants to be a good woman. With that said, she won´t take the blame anymore and she won´t carry the weight of the conflict anymore. He ran away and left her dealing with everything on her own. She is now done with that and she is moving on.
The second she said "hear me", i started crying.. i don't know why...There is so much sadness in her voice that i seriously felt it deep down in my heart
I love the fact that Joy is not afraid to sing about the problems she had earlier on and that she put the lines "Hear me, I haven't lost my voice without you near me!" showing that she's willing/ready to stand on her own without John......
Although I do believe they sound amazing (cough cough, BETTER, cough cough) together- Joy is such a strong artist and person that she can probably really make it in the Big World
