Everything I do gohn be funky
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on
I have to be myself and do my thing
A little soul can’t do no harm, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Some may say I’ve got no class
But I’m doing what I wanna do
So go with me if you can
Or just do what you can do
Oh, shucks
Why you whining
I’m on fire
Yeah, everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on
Never before have I felt so good
Just being natural me
My little hang up and my little times
But deep inside, I’m free
Let your hair down, get down wings
Who’s to say what’s right or wrong
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on
Yeah, everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on, yeah
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on
Everything I do gohn be
Funky from now on
Oh, shucks, do your thing
I think it was an old Beastie Boy song where they sampled someone saying "Everything I do GOTS to be funky", but I wish I knew where it came from. And I agree, it's amazing how many distinctively great songs Lee Dorsey had.
Did you guys know that John Lennon played this song to get the mood he needed for the song, "Well, Well, Well" on the album, "The Plastic Ono Band"? The Beatles Bible states, "Ringo Starr claimed in a 1973 interview that Lennon had played Lee Dorsey’s 1969 single Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky (From Now On) 'a hundred times' to get the spirit he wanted."
The first time I heard this record long after the fact, I thought this demonstrated, like no other record, the influence of New Orleans R&B on Jamaican music, reggae in particular(Barbara George's "I Know You Don't Want Me No More" sounds like proto-ska). The beat falls in a different place, but there it is.
I did the spoken intro to the song as the recording engineer on the session.I slated the tape with the song title and what take this was. For some reason Allen liked my way south Georgia accent. Allen Toussaint was one of the most creative, talented people I ever worked with....Rodney Mills
