My grade 10 public school English teacher showed us this song in class, in Portugal (in the 1990s). I'm Portuguese and so was my teacher. She also told us about Sister Rosetta Tharpe and how she (my teacher) as a teen collapsed after Elvis's death was announced. She taught us that Elvis was a product of listening to all these African American women. I speak to native English speaking people from my generation who don't know any of this, because they didn't have the awesome teacher that I had. The Brits themselves for instance don't seem to have a clue, my random Portuguese ass has to teach them XD
