This song was worthy of Elvis's voice. I think he would have sing it rather well, too. Mark Dinning had an excellent singing voice. He had "the look" as well. you may call him a one hit wonder but this one song was more than most recording artist could ever hope for. this song Hit number one very fast and has immortalized this man forever.
If i had to pick ONLY ONE song that describes the last 50s to mid 60s, it would be this song. What a tribute to the music of the times. Don't think my memories would be nearly so vivid without it. All of us experienced the loss of a loved one in a car accident, during these times.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, November 15, 1959, Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie and two of their children, Nancy aged 16 and Kenyon aged 15, were murdered at their farm in Holcomb, Kansas. These crimes were immortalized by Truman Capote in his novel "In Cold Blood".
At the time of her death, Nancy Clutter was the girlfriend of Robert "Bobby" Rupp, who, a year after the tragedy that marked his life, was interviewed by journalist Andy Waldrop.
In this report, Bobby confessed that in the year after Nancy's death, when he was in deep sadness, a song came out that touched him deeply, it was called "Teen Angel". The lyrics speak of a young man afflicted by the loss of his love of 16 years. As it happened to him.
This is the song.
Such wonderful music. I was born in 89 and absolutely love this type of music. I've been listening to it ever since I was little with my Grandmother. It's so powerful and passionate. It has real meaning to it unlike the music that it produced today, such a shame that this music has faded away.
