Like a grain of sand
That wants to be
A rolling stone
I want to be the man
I’m not
And have the things
I really haven’t got
And that’s a lot
There’ll be joy
And there’ll be laughter
Something big is what I’m after now
Yes, it’s what I’m after now
After taking
Take up giving
Something big is what I’m living for
Yes, it’s what I’m living for
Living for
Why must I go on
And fill my life with little things
When there are big things I must do
And lots of dreams
That really should come true
Before I’m through
There’ll be joy
And there’ll be laughter
Something big is what I’m after now
Yes, it’s what I’m after now
After taking
Take up giving
Something big is what I’m living for
Yes, it’s what I’m living for
Living for
I remember this song when I first heard it a long time ago from a Bean Martin western by the same name. It is written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and a version is on Bacharach's classics cd. I enjoy Lindsay's version just as much.
One of my all-time favorite Burt Bacharach/Hal David film songs. I went out and bought the 45 (remember those?) and wished it could have been a hit. Mark Lindsay is a truly underrated singer. HIs version of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" is another great song from BacharachDavid. thank you for this!
Lindsay also did the song "Jody" from the 1970s western "Santee" starring Glenn Ford, and also may have contributed to the musical score. A haunting song which fit Lindsay's vocals perfectly. Very hard tune to find.
Thanks for posting this track.
I love this song. Mark is such an amazing & timeless talent. He has contributed so much to the music industry from his singing to numerous things behind the scenes like his writing & composing, producing, A&R and the list goes on. He can sing anything from rock & roll to easy listening to Christmas music to love ballads; I can't think of a single genre that Mark doesn't shine on. I collect all of his music & can't stop listening to his new "Life Out Loud" CD. Love ya, Mark!
Oh my gosh! I've never heard this song. I thought I'd heard everything Mark ever did. He's amazing, untouchable, in a class by himself. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a total joke unless and until Mark Lindsay is inducted.
I remember the movie ans found a ripped version from tv in the uk. I wish they would release it. With Andrew V.Macglaughin as director, ben johnson and Harry carry jr, it had the production value of the films they made with Wayne. Imagine Duke in the character Brian keith played......
