(old comment is old, I know) Black Metal, or Metal in general is far from being the counter-culture it proclaims itself to be. You have to keep itall in a familiar frame (rooted mostly in modern americanized entertainment) or else you alienate most of your target audience. It's not nearly as co-opted as f.e. punk rock, where you can buy outfit and soundtrack to the "revolution" from chain stores. But it still targets a horny male audience that knows mysticism/occultism only in predigested form.
