By The Doors
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire X2
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire X2
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire X2
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire X2
Try to set the night on fire X4
I really like the version by the Doors but I LOVE this version by Miss Bassey. First the change of gender is fascinating as Shirley lends a VERY sublime yet passionate seductive quality to the lyrics. Second she has more range and vocal textures than Morrison. Whereas Morrison sounds to be frank monotone and under some hypnotic dull trance, Shirley brings this song to life. The musical arrangement is in my view what carries Morrison's version. Shirley just off of the strength of her voice is able to lift this song to another level. The orchestra in This BEAUTIFUL gem is equally up to the task. Combine BOTH and you have what amounts to a masterpiece.
Υou know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Boy, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love becomes
A funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love becomes
A funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Come on baby, light my fire
