Neurofunk in the day was like this hidden gem amongst a swash of boring jump-up and loud boring mc's. This shit really took over stateside and was the first modern change in DNB music. But like dubstep, over aggressive scenesters and producers trying to push one hard sound ruined the entire sound. But listen to a track like this, how the synths sorta rip out a little funk riff. This is what neurofunk is supposed to be.
This track is absolute LEGEND. When I can touch this level of sound design and production, I'll consider my life complete. Until then, I'll just keep resampling my crappy Reeses and trying to be cool
Bad Company UK, Kemal and Rob Data, Stakka and Skynet, Ed Rush and Optical, all testified at 2001 that they were way ahead of any drum and bass act that would follow, these people created plenty of separate branches in the scene: Techstep, Neurofunk, Technoid Drum and bas, then came Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Audio, The Sect, The Upbeats to grab the dnb torch and now all what you experience is some compressed basslines and preprocessed drum sequences.
Before the guys used to sit with their computers and pour their hearts and soul to craft that "rinsing" rollers infused with techno elements that would make your neurons shake
