The Boswell Sisters - Nights When I Am Lonely download song

This was recorded using an acoustic recording device, which is where the "whang" comes from. When it is slowed down just a little Connie and Martha's voice is more recognizable.

This was one of three songs they recorded at their very first recording session according to Kyla Titus (Vet's grand daughter) in a newly published book, "The Boswell Legacy".

I think this was recorded on a portable Victor acoustic recording machine. Vet recalled singing into the horns, which were like megaphones turned the wrong way. The microphone and electronic recording came in 1926, making it possible to do justice to the great Boswell harmonies - as well as make possible the careers of various crooners.

If you are ever in New Orleans you can go to the place where this was recorded. At the time, it was the Werlein's Music store. Today it is the Palace Cafe. There is a display on the seond floor that honors the Boswell Sisters and this first recording.

They already had a great sense of rhythm, and charming voices!
