The Carter Famiy was from Virginia, Originally from the north side of the Clinch Mountains of Virginia to be precise.
The Big Moccasin Gap thru the Clinch Mtns is where the Warrior's Path of the Cherokee passed on its way thru the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky. Later followed by Daniel Boone to create the Wilderness Road west.
The area remains beautiful today and it's easy to see how such a landscape could form the character of a family as profoundly infuential as the Carter Family.

Hey guess what ??? We have a BEAR CREEK out here in Medford Oregon . It runs from Ashlan oregon to north and east of medford where it finally dumps into the Rogue River , and fron there on to the Pacific Ocean at Gold Beach Oregon . Hows that for cool coincidence ???

This is wonderful hearing them do this terrific blues song. Voices, and instruments spot on.. just heard someone play this at a John Prine tribute, and so unlike Prine to play blues, I looked on You Tube, found him playing, and led to Carter Family. Whew. As much as I love Prine, so many records he's done I realize I haven't caught up. Nor have I caught up with all the Carter Family tunes. Time's a wastin'.
