Look for no tears in my eyes
Sing me no sweet lullaby
I made a heart of stone
I can call my own
Remember the days of the shoreline
The sun made the surfers go blind
Once painfully trapped between childhood and fame
Now that’s my name
Someone please tear down the walls of this room
Don’t leave me deaf-dumb in a silent cocoon
I gave my soul freely for a place in the sun
I know that I’m not the only one
Shadow flies, dead end of fame
Them neon lights spelling my name
And I fear the day when the light goes out
What’s it all about?
The dust that once came to my eyes
Suddenly left me unwise
Painfully trapped between childhood and fame
That’s a shame
Astray like a leaf in the rapids of time
Once touched the stars, then back to the grind
Back to the level where humans tread
Imploded back into my head
Someone please tear down the walls of this room
Don’t leave me deaf-dumb in a silent cocoon
I gave my soul freely for a moment of truth
A servant and knight to the boot
See me, touch me, feel me, will I live forever?
Hold me, thrill me, in your love forever
I completely agree that this is a 'Masterpiece'. But I hope I am not the only one that realizes that they have at least a 50% 'Masterpiece' cd rating. Space Revolver , solid greats! The Rainmaker 2/3 'masterpiece', The Sum of no Reason', Is I think the very best CD released. But! Stolt and the others are not retiring just yet. Agents of Mercy, Transatlantic, are very happening,They are too good to have 'A'- Masterpiece, They have them regularly.
this song introduced me to this band. forever grateful to have discovered a band as gifted as Yes and King Crimson but with even more lucious arrangements! so many ideas in one song and it still makes sense. As do so many other songs they made. Incredible!
The way that The Flower Kings are able to build tension in their music and the then release it so perfectly is part of what sets them apart from other groups.
I was only peripherally aware of these guys til I saw them at nearfest about 15 years ago.
They closed with a rendition of this that put the album cut to shame. The ballady, “stardust we are” movement left us in shock for the rest of the day...I’ll never forget that. We went and saw them play a small club a couple days later.
