I liked this when I was age 4, and still like it.Notice that alot of the male singing groups in the 1950s up to about 1965 usually dressed like a business CEO while singing on stage? They looked nice.
I loved the sound of the Four Preps, hearing the wonderful voice of the lead singer Bruce Belland back in the 50's as a kid..I also like the concept of the "big piano" surrounding the voices on "Big Man" by their mentor and arranger Lincoln Mayorga!
As I understand it, the background singer responsible for the high shrill vocals, was an 11 year old neice of the producer. They could not find anyone else capable of producing the desired vocals. Neat song no matter how you look at it.
I was 6 years old when I first heard this song. My father was stationed in France and we took the SS United States ship overseas. I would listen to this song and cry because I was so homesick for my Grandma. It still makes me cry all these years later.
The Four Preps were my favorite group as a 10 year old in the mid '50s. Their first album was my first album purchase. Their music helped me through many tough times as a teenager. Absolutely adore their harmony and believe they are undervalued as one of the great "Four" groups of the era. I've been looking for these early performances for years. So glad to see this posted.
