I wonder how many people realise that this song exploits a pun. When this was written the vast majority of people thought that this song was all about MONEY. In the UK at the time we had Pounds Shillings and Pence, referred to by the Latin Words Libre, Solidi, Denari, or as commonly said LSD, which appeared at the top of every balance sheet, It;s not even clear they were ever talking about Lysergic Acid. Listen to the words and make up your own mind, but most people had not heard of the drug when this was performed.
