Ending lyrics borrowed from Don McLean - "Vincent": "And when no hope was left in sight On that starry, starry night You took your life as lovers often do But I could have told you, Vincent This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you".
Bought "Here comes everybody" on cd. The best music investment in a long time. The missing link to many modern indie bands like Radio dept, Embassy, Wild nothing etc. Love this treasure!
If I'm not mistaken, it's actually a very rare one; a Korg PE-2000 (look at the music video of "Talk about the past". I'm pretty sure she used the same synth in the studio as well.) You can probably get quite a similar sound with any analog poly synth. It must be a real analog one though, not a DCO based synth. I've tried getting a similar sound out of my Juno-6, but it is impossible to get it as thick as this. A Prophet-5 as suggested, is probably much better.
My most favorite discovery back then , the cover was a Kandinsky look, the music was my link to joy division, the cure, Modern English, OMD. As a drummer I loved how solid it was only to find out its a machine, alas still great album.
Great stuff, it sucks though that most new indie bands aren't striving to be different than this. Why listen to (basically) a newer version of song when you can enjoy the original.
There are actually two bands called the wake and the bands are some what similar. There is a new wave/goth band here and there is a death/goth rock band too.
