Wake up, it’s Christmas mourn
Those loved have long since gone
The stockings are hung but who cares
Preserved for those no longer there
Six feet beneath me sleep
Black lights hang from the tree
Accents of dead holly
Whoa mistletoe
(It's growing cold)
I’m seeing ghost
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
(Red water)
Red water chase them away
My tables been set for but seven
Just last year, I dined with eleven
Goddamn ye, merry gentlemen
Whoa, mistletoe
(It's growing cold)
I’m seeing ghosts
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
(Red water)
Red water chase them away
(From chase them away)
(From chase them away)
In 1999 when I was 14yrs old and completely shutting down on every level, when I heard this song, I finally realized that other people felt the way I did too.
This is my Christmas tradition. And seeing my 3 year old daughter dance to Green Man on the first day of autumn last year. Thank you Type O Negative. Thank you, Pete. We miss you
The song perfectly captures how the holidays can become depressing and lonelier as we get older and friends and loved ones die or we drift apart from them
My grandma is in a nursing home she used to live with us for 10 years and this year she can't make it to our house for Christmas because she has gotten so sick, it's also my birthday on Christmas which makes it worse for her and me. The older I get the more I relate to this song every year.
