Gary Numan was the biggest influence on Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Telekon is his favourite album and Trent owned up to listening to it on the drive to the studio every day when he was recording The Downward Spiral. They have both since guest appeared at each others gigs several times.

Like no other in '79 & '80... even sidelined Bowie for a time. Numan was the great pop electronic presence

I still prefer the New Wave Gary Numan over the new industrial Gary Numan. Growing up in the 80's this music was and still is amazing.

For some reason, this song makes me think of Toronto in the 1980s. Indeed, I imagine it was often played on radio stations in the area during the former half of the decade.

The cadence of his lyrics to this song are unique. I said this same thing to a friend named James, who has since passed from an O.D.

40 years later and I’m still totally gutted and bewildered that this didn’t get to number 1 in the charts. I’m assuming it was some twattish Radio 1 skullduggery.

The difference is bowie dipped into different genres of music whereas numan stayed true to one style

"We are young We can break Watch us fall We can take some train down to the sea We Are Glass We Are Glass We are real You can touch Just for now And Then say 'Hey you Which way is down' We Are Glass We Are Glass Break We are strong We run though We have time And To you I'm just one of those boys We Are Glass We Are Glass We are cold We're not supposed to cry But It's all just a thought So Here am I We Are Glass We Are Glass Break They run fast Impressions of the floors inviting Stay with me Stay with me They run past with telephones They scream 'Well would you turn it down Turn it down' You are replaced You are you And Our dreams are real And Dreams are all we need We Are Glass We Are Glass They run fast Impressions of the floors inviting Stay with me Stay with me They run past with telephones They scream 'Well would you turn it down Turn it down?'"

David Bowie once stated watching Numan that 'That little shit had stolen my act!'...for me I've enjoyed and learned more from Numans early stuff than all of Bowie's output. Not a fan at all of the recent stuff but I'm a massive Floyd fan too and only care for their early work.Theres no rules to what work we admire. It chooses US....it's all rooted in times that were obviously important to us most.I love this guy.He and Roger Waters are my favourite lyricists hands down.Thankyou for writing the soundtracks to my lifeX

Happy days in the 80s.....So much different kinds of music to explore...... Now it's just recycled crap.

audioman628 I'm with you on that! His big, expansive synth sound is like no other! Another beautiful, creative arrangement!
