They’re flying, they’re styling, the President is smiling
We’re losin', it’s confusin', we’re beggin', they’re refusin'
Can’t replace it, erase it, come back to hell and face it Without lying, we’re dying, the choppers keep on flying
Like they’re playin', who’re they saving?
The President is waving
Ooh, sometimes I see the faces, so real to me Can you see anything you recall?
Big shots in helicopters on my TV
Can you feel anything after all?
And everyone is telling me This is just the way it’s meant to be You’re living in a world of fantasy
And there we waited
Each wasted day, hope devastated
Sail away, sail away
For the human race we’re gonna leave disgrace behind
Sail away, sail away
From the jaws of hate we’ll take control of fate this time
Sometimes I hide the feelings I’m going through
You can lie, but you know no one cares
Outside the waves are crashing, the piper’s due
Here inside you can’t go anywhere
And everyone keeps telling me God will save us all eventually
This is just the way it’s meant to be Just scared of thinking … the angry seas
Our ship is sinking
Well I must say the drums are weak and some other things have changed from the classic sound. However as a diehard Boston Fan it still has the guitar sound and the vocals are good. Some time you need to listen to the album 2 or three times for it to grow on you.
wtf where is the hook? channel, Brad man
don't sound like Boston to me. but how could it?
I'll still prolly buy the CD anyway since I'm an incorrigible Boston fan to the fucken max
For those of you who don't like the 'new' Boston, consider this: Do all STYX albums sound alike? No. Do all Aerosmith albums sound alike? No. Do all Def Leppard or Eagles sound alike? No! Groups change. People change. They grow. I don't expect Boston to sound like it did almost 40 years ago! It's fairly close, but why would you want it to sound exactly the same? I know, I love those old songs too, but it's not 1976-77 anymore. I'm 50 years old now, and I'm not the same person I was when I first heard Foreplay/Long Time, or Don't Look Back. They aren't the same either. As Jeff Sell said, things have changed with Boston. Let it be, and enjoy the new music. It's not perfect, but neither are any of us. Just listen...
I had this thought when the song came out, and still do when hearing the helicopter-ish intro (which re-occurs during the song): it's curious because it sounds so modern and at the same time fits perfectly! It is so powerful! I am positive that the band has listened to 2000's until current day's music and felt that they had to fit in something from this time. A style update; even if it is just 5% of the song. The remaining part is still totally recognizable classic Boston sound. :)
Very somber, powerful song - with classic Boston chord changes and transitions. Brad Delp nailed the vocals perfectly. He has that soft, subtle vibrato that noone can match.
Gotta' say, I was "iffy" about the new lineup(s) since Brad's suicide. But I just got back from seeing them live and I have to admit it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen... they were so tight, musically and tonally. I really miss Brad's vocals, but Tommy is a great fit for the band. No one will ever be able to replace Brad, but Tommy does an incredible job.
