I wonder who the idiot is who put a thumbs down on this great version of the song by Carmen McRae?  I think it was Chuck Schumer.

Thanks for acknowledging the composer. Too few do. To MellowMrMike: Carmen was a very big star. It was Ella, Sarah and Carmen. She did films, TV and major clubs. There are others like Betty Carter who never got their due. But she was great. My fav album of Carmen's is the one with Cal Jader. (Speak Low and Upside Down or Flor di Lis are flawless.)

I quickly recorded a 20-30 second snippet of this song/version on a cassette player back in the 1980's when it was on Public Broadcast Radio late one night...and I never caught the name becuase I missed all of that info but I never forgot the sound! This is the version I heard! After all this time, I have found it. This type of thing is what makes You Tube so great. Thanks for putting this classic up for all of us to enjoy.

Not bad, but not nearly as good as the June Christy version, or the Katerina Valente/Chet Baker dou.

There's only one Ms. Carmen McRae, a great treasure. Like most things that are best, it may not be immediately apparent. Once you get hooked, you're a goner. She sings in trumpet style often. Her sense of swing and syncopation are remarkable and musical, and meaningful to the context of the song. A consummate artist. I love Carmen McRae.

She is so truthful in her delivery of the lyrics. There's nothing corny or cliche about her lines, ever. I just finished reading a very moving biography about Carmen. What a hard road she had as an artist, how long it took until she gained some recognition. The book is "Miss Jazz" by Leslie Gourse.

I was at jazz jam in Chicago and a guy sang this song up tempo and swinging! Marvelous arrangement replete with horns, piano, guitar, and percussion. I like this song at any tempo ballad or swinging fast. Carmen McCrae has a nice touch with guitar fluttering in the background. 5 star rendition.

Love her voice but not this arrangement. Needs to slow down and maybe some violins. To me it's a ballad and the lyrics need to be sung emotionally not flippantly.

One of the most underrated singers EVER. Never really did get her due.
