I’m riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
So be quiet tonight the stars
Shine bright
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise up my voice into
The void
You have left me nowhere to go
I love you so much and it’s so bizarre
A mystery that goes on and on and on This is the best thing and the very
Most hard
And we don’t get along
After countless appeals we keep
Spinning our wheels
On this mountain of new fallen snow
So I let go the catch and we are
Over the edge
You have left me nowhere to go
I’m riding shotgun down the avalanche
Sometimes you make me lose my will
To live
And just become a beacon for your soul
But the past is stronger than my will
To forgive
Forgive you or myself, I don’t know
I’m riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
So be quiet tonight be sure to Step lightly
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise up my voice into
The void
You have left me nowhere to go
I’m riding shotgun down the avalanche
This was a perfect song about being driven to the edge by a difficult lover when I first heard it thirty some years ago, and it still is. Shawn just takes hold of you...
So beautiful - everything - vocals, arrangements, harmonies, guitars, lyrics - this song should have been nominated for one of the best songs that year. 100% Outstanding song in every way! .
What a great energy Shawn brings to all her songs...emotions abound...and you feel it..Thank You, Shawn, for this sonic beauty that you've bestowed upon the world.
My wife is Australian and on our last visit I introduced her cousin to this song. He has a state of the art 'sound room' where he can listen to music and this sounded great. Shawn now has yet another fan.
I first heard this song on KERA 90.1 FM in Dallas during the early 90's when they used to play music all day. I have loved it ever since, and the more I listened to the lyrics, they more they resonated with me. Shawn Colvin is an exceptional singer/songwriter, and I will always be a fan.
Mr. Diggler: Your comment was quite offensive to all women, especially to those women who share their lives with us through their music. I can't speak for Shawn Colvin, but I don't think she would consider your comment as a compliment.
I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
So be quiet tonight
The stars shine bright
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise my voice into the void
You have left me nowhere to go
And I love you so much and it's so bizarre
A mystery that goes on and on and on
This is the best thing and the very most hard
Oh we don't get along
And after countless appeals
We keep spinning our wheels
On this mountain of new fallen snow
So I let go the catch and we are over the edge
You have left me nowhere to go
And I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Sometimes you make me lose my will to live
And just become a beacon for your soul
But the past is stronger than my will to forgive
Forgive you or myself, well I don't know
I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Tumbling and falling down the avalanche
So be quiet tonight
Be sure to step lightly
On this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise up my voice into the void
You have left me nowhere to go
And I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche
Female singer/songwriters like Shawn Colvin and Jonatha Brooke (formerly of The Story) both have voices that are so incredible that they just give you chills!
Still sends chills down my spine whenevrr i hear it. I heard it is written about her abortion experience. Funny because i feel so keenly alive when i listen to it. There is a sense of desperation around it and that seems to be when i feel most alive. I think some people get addicted to that feeling, like the streets.
