Very sweet and gentle rendition

The consummate perfectionist, she was genius on the piano accompanying her own singing, and she worked with her trio for 25 years, also gaining perfection together.  Shirley Horn chose to retire in the early 1960s, when the Beetles music was taking over the scene, stating she would "not stoop to conquer" so she let it rest for many years, later performing jazz with other terrific artists like Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and Wynton Marsalis, Miles and Wynton's trumpets ascending her music to new and different heights.She preferred small groups but did sing with Quincy when she lost her foot due to diabetes.  She later learned to play the piano again without her foot.  What a talent she was, we will continue to love her very special style of very mellow music!  Oh, she could do jazz well, but was known for her smooth, slow sensational ballads.
