The naughty lady of Shady Lane
Has hit the town like a bomb
The back-fence gossip ain’t been this good
Since Mabel ran off with Tom
Our town was peaceful and quiet
Before she came on the scene
The lady has started a riot
Disturbin' the suburban routine
The naughty lady of Shady Lane has the town in a whirl
The naughty lady of Shady Lane
Me-oh, my-oh, what a girl
You should see how she carries on With her admirers galore
She must be givin' them quite a thrill
The way they flock to her door
She throws those come-hither glances
At every Tom, Dick, and Joe
When offered some liquid refreshment
The lady never never says «no»
The things they’re trying to pin on her
Won’t hold much water, for sure
Beneath the powder and fancy lace
There beats a heart sweet and pure
She just needs someone to change her
And she’ll be nice as can be If you’re in the neighborhood, stranger
You’re welcome to drop in and see
The naughty lady of Shady Lane
So delightful to hold
The naughty lady of Shady Lane
So delectable
Quite respectable
And she’s only nine days old
My beloved Daddy used to listen to this song a thousand times, when I was a baby, and I still remember this, and ADORE it, it brings back my Father, who is not with me for 26 years, he listens to this our song from high above, the HEAVEN! Kisses, Father!
Back when adults were adult and brought into the world beautiful new human beings, instead of adult-children bringing into the world what they consider playthings to be given incredibly stupid names; scary to think in whose hands the future lies.
LOL. Until I was in my 50's I thought the Naughty Lane was about a woman of ill-repute. racked me up when I paid attention and realized that it was about an infant!
This song has been kicking around in my head for so many years, so I tried to find it on You Tube and there it is-a favorite of mine that I heard on the radio many times.
"The things they're trying to pin on her won't hold much water I'm sure..." A generation (or two) raised on disposable diapers that fasten with tape may not get this hilarious reference to traditional cloth diapers held on by safety pins. This whole song is a master class in creative writing
I LOVE EVERYTHING the brothers ever put out. Wish I knew how to let Ed know I remember the day he rescued my little sister from being locked in ladies room at Mosely Pines when he & his brothers were playing tennis on a break from performing at Hampton Beach?
I don't know how I stumbled on this wonderful song in 1989 when my first daughter was born but I used to hold her and sing and dance around the house to it for months. A sweet and precious memory!
